What are the objectives of Professional Educators and Managers Ireland?

Working with and for the Early Childhood and School Age profession, PEMI will progress actions within Nurturing Skills: The Workforce plan for the Early Childhood and School Age profession, 2022-2028 (Government of Ireland, 2022). 

This body seeks to:

  • Raise the professional status of the Early Childhood and School Age profession
  • Amplify the voice of the Early Childhood and School Age professional
  • Identify and agree terminology for the Early Childhood and School Age profession
  • Promote careers in the Early Childhood and School Age profession
  • Increase awareness of and promote adherence to professional standards and professional practice (e.g., code of ethics; code of professional standards)
  • Create a shared professional identity
  • Advocate for recognition of the Early Childhood profession as the foundational stage of children’s education on a continuum and on par with primary and secondary education
  • Support Early Childhood and School Age professionals to help each other in their professional role
  • Establish a voluntary register of Early Childhood and School Age professionals (Level 5 to Level 8+)
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to develop:
  • An induction process for Newly Qualified Educators
  • National guidance, supports and resources for student professional practice placement, at all qualification levels
  • ‘Fitness to practice’ criteria over time
  • Inform and shape Early Childhood and School Age Policy
