Michael Kenny

Michael Kenny:

“I am proud to have been involved in a number of volunteer roles with Crann Support Group in Trim County Meath while I lived locally (up to April 2016). As an advocate of third sector enterprises I recommend Crann Support Group as a model of best practice.

Crann Support Group is the largest social enterprise project in Meath and one of the most innovative examples of a social economy project meeting community needs in Ireland.

Crann Support Group is involved in

• The provision of community childcare and after-school services to children and their families through 8 centres and a number of ancillary services countywide
• Providing affordable administrative, human resource, and management services to community projects
• Support and sponsorship of a county-wide and local community employment (CE) scheme
• Provision of over 250 jobs and a significant turnover contribution to the local economies
• An innovative model for non-profit service management
• Community volunteer involvement at all levels
• Capacity building and further education for all levels of staff
• Providing advocacy and proactive project development in tiger and news service

The flexible but secure corporate structure adopted by Crann Support Group enables communities to develop services within a non-profit community service support ethos. Crann Support Group is a model for community based enterprise and regeneration.”
