About Us

Family Resource Centres (FRCs) operate within a community-based family support model that is central to the Programme. Community development is at the core of the FRC approach, shaping the values, principles and methods that guide their work and contributing to the distinctive role FRCs play within local communities.

A key element of the FRC Programme is the meaningful involvement of local people in identifying community needs and developing responses that are informed by those needs. East Coast Family Resource Centre (ECFRC) adopts a participative and empowering approach, supporting children, families and individuals while also strengthening the capacity, skills and leadership of local communities.

East Coast FRC provides a broad range of universal and targeted services, supports and development opportunities designed to respond to identified community needs. Through this approach, East Coast FRC works collaboratively with individuals, families and the wider community to promote participation, empowerment and positive development.

FRCs provide, deliver, and facilitate the following:

  • Information, advice, and support to target groups and families, including guidance on accessing local services, rights, and entitlements.
  • Onward referrals to mainstream service providers.
  • Outreach Family support and Meitheal.
  • Drop in 1-1 support & parenting peer support.
  • Parent support programmes including Parents Plus suite.
  • Act Belong Commit (ABC) Initiative – Health and wellbeing activities and events
  • Education and training opportunities to support personal growth and skills development.
  • Establishment and maintenance of community groups to meet local needs (e.g., WWW, Sassy seniors, Soul sisters, parent and toddler group).
  • Summer and out of school activities and camps
  • Youth group and Nero Youth group.
  • Capacity building and leadership development within communities.
  • Personal and group development opportunities.
  • Practical assistance to individuals and community groups, including access to information technology and office facilities.
  • FRCs engage in local consultations to undertake their planning.

Edel O'Neill

Family Support/ Community Development

Edel completed her BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Education and Care in 2017. In 2021, she took on the role of family support and community development worker in East Coast Family Resource Centre and in 2022, completed an MA in Mentoring, Management and Leadership in Early Years. Edel is trained in a number of the parents plus programmes and is a Rainbows Ireland facilitator.
